The landmark clean energy investment bill signed into law last year has already created over 500,000 new jobs across the country, with the strongest growth in solar installation, wind turbine manufacturing, electric vehicle production, and energy-efficient building construction.
The job creation has been particularly strong in rural communities and former fossil fuel regions, where targeted transition programs are helping workers move into clean energy careers that often pay more than the jobs they replace.
"This proves that protecting our planet and creating good jobs aren't competing goals — they go hand in hand," said the Secretary of Energy. "Clean energy is the economic engine of the future."
Where the Jobs Are
Clean energy employment is booming across multiple sectors:
- Solar Installation: +185,000 jobs, with average wages of $25/hour and growing demand
- Wind Energy: +95,000 jobs, concentrated in the Midwest and Great Plains states
- Electric Vehicles: +120,000 jobs as new battery and EV assembly plants open
- Building Efficiency: +100,000 jobs in energy-efficient construction and retrofitting
Notably, 62% of the new clean energy jobs do not require a four-year college degree, making them accessible paths to the middle class. Union membership in the clean energy sector has grown by 23%, ensuring these are good-paying jobs with benefits.
